Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for immediate action to address growing safety concerns in schools following recent incidents involving learners.

In a statement, Kalonzo said no parent should have to endure the pain of receiving news that their child will never return home, emphasizing the need for urgent reforms to protect students.

The former Vice President pledged to champion a nationwide safety audit of all boarding school dormitories to ensure compliance with safety standards. He said institutions that fail to meet the required standards should face strict consequences.

Kalonzo also proposed the establishment of a fully funded mental health programme in schools to support learners facing emotional and psychological challenges.

Additionally, he called for a comprehensive review of boarding school standards, focusing on safety, nutrition, accommodation, and the overall welfare of students.

The opposition leader stressed that accountability must be enforced whenever negligence endangers the lives of learners, noting that those responsible should be held to account.

“Our children are not statistics. They are our responsibility,” Kalonzo stated, urging stakeholders in the education sector to prioritize the safety and well-being of all learners.
