Jimmy Kibaki, the son of late President Mwai Kibaki, has made a comeback into active politics after a break.
His return comes a time Mt Kenya leaders are embroiled in a supremacy battle pitting Interior Security CS Kithure Kindiki against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The two are tussling over the region’s kingship position. Mt Kenya East has endorsed Kindiki while the West is divided, a majority standing with Gachagua.
In May this year, Jimmy resigned as the deputy leader of The New Democrats (TND), Party a position he had held for three years.
Now the Registrar of Political Parties has named Jimmy as the deputy leader of NDP again in new changes published in the latest Gazette notice.
Daniel Musembi who was the secretary-general has been replaced by Fredrick Muthangya and Simon Ngunjiri has taken over as deputy secretary-general, replacing Roseline Ashepete.
Daniel Kipkorir will take over as the deputy treasurer, replacing Khadija Ahmed as per the notice published yesterday.
Jimmy is yet to make any communication but the move is seen as preparation for political shakes expected in the region should Gachagua impeachment sail through..
When he resigned four months ago, Jimmy said he had been involved in various political initiatives behind the scenes for more than 33 years.
Such included formation and management of parties like Party of National Unity which he left to join TND in 2021.
Now eyes are on his next move which is likely to shake the already boiling mountain.
