Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has promised the Linda Mwananchi political group sufficient security for their political rally in Kisumu this weekend saying police are fully ready to ensure safety and order.
Kanja uttered the same while responding to summons by Senate Security and Defence Committee that had called him and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Mohamed Amin to explain the increasing political violence and insecurity at political assemblies.
The committee wanted to know about the alleged threats to the life of Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo and the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, incidents that have been a concern to the lawmakers over the safety of political leaders and supporters.
Senators pointed out that the Linda Mwananchi faction has a democratic right to hold political rallies anywhere in the country without being intimidated or interfered, and they called on security agencies to be neutral and protect all citizens equally.
Addressing the issues, Kanja expressed his disapproval of Senator Osotsi’s assault and explained to the committee that the perpetrators will be held accountable.
Besides that, he informed that the police are implementing resolute measures to control the rising trend of political hooliganism.
