Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Wednesday joined Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen in visiting parts of Nairobi and Kiambu that were hit hard by Tuesday’s protests.

They toured OTC, Bus Station, and Nyamakima in the Nairobi CBD, where they met business owners whose shops were looted or destroyed during the chaos. Many traders shared emotional stories of losses they say will take years to recover from.

He expressed sympathy to families affected by the violence and urged calm as investigations continue.

IG Kanja praised police officers for responding swiftly despite tough conditions, adding that several were injured while trying to protect lives and property. He promised firm action against anyone found responsible for the destruction.

The team also visited police posts in Ruthimitu and Dagoretti, and the burned-out Kikuyu Law Courts.

Five firearms were reported stolen, and at least 25 people have been arrested so far. Senior government and police officials joined the visit as authorities assess the full scale of the damage.
