The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) starting Monday, September 29, opening another window for eligible Kenyans to register or update their voter details in preparation for the 2027 general election.
The exercise will take place in all constituency offices across the country, except in areas where by-elections are currently ongoing.
According to the commission, the initiative is part of its constitutional mandate to maintain an updated and credible voter register, a cornerstone of transparent and inclusive electoral processes.
During the CVR exercise, citizens will be able to register as new voters, correct or update their details, transfer their registration to a different electoral area, or verify their information. Voter details can also be confirmed online through the IEBC portal at verify.iebc.or.ke.
Eligibility requirements include being a Kenyan citizen aged 18 years and above, possessing a valid national ID card or passport, and not having been previously registered as a voter. However, individuals convicted of an election offence within the past five years or declared of unsound mind are disqualified.
The IEBC urged newly eligible voters to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that meaningful participation in elections begins with registration.
Those who have recently moved residence or wish to transfer their polling station are also encouraged to do so early to avoid the last-minute rush during major voter listing drives.
“The credibility of any election is anchored on an updated voter register,” said Commission Chairperson Erastus Ethekon, adding that active citizen participation strengthens Kenya’s democracy.
