Kenyan socialite and entrepreneur Huddah Monroe has shared a strongly worded message about Kenya’s economic future and foreign ownership. In a series of Instagram stories, Huddah warned Kenyans that the country is fast becoming “the Dubai of Africa,” suggesting that foreign investors are steadily taking over prime businesses and spaces and that locals risk being locked out if they don’t act fast.

Huddah urged Kenyans to own assets, businesses, and shares, warning that money is the main reason foreigners are flocking into the country.“Muache ufala. Kuna pesa huku,” she wrote, emphasizing that Kenya is attractive because of opportunity. She went further to caution that in a few years, many Kenyans may no longer afford to live or operate in the country’s best locations if ownership remains in foreign hands.

Huddah suggested that Kenya should adopt a system similar to Dubai’s, where locals are required to own at least 51% of any company operating in the country.According to her, this would ensure that Kenyans retain control over their own economy and land while still benefiting from foreign investment.

In a surprising twist, Huddah also distanced her message from partisan politics and placed responsibility on Kenyans themselves to secure their future. Some followers praised Huddah for speaking uncomfortable truths and encouraging financial literacy and investment among Kenyans. Others accused her of fear-mongering, oversimplifying complex economic issues, or ignoring the benefits that foreign investment brings to the country.
