Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier

Gor Mahia chairman has found relief after the High Court temporarily suspended Sports Registrar orders of suspension of long-serving chairman Ambrose Rachier, citing the expiry of his legally permitted tenure.

On June 10, 2026, Sports Registrar Rose Wasike ruled that Rachier’s tenure had ended on June 8, 2026, under the Sports Act, which limits elected officials to a maximum of eight years.

According to the Registrar, Gor Mahia’s governance cycle began when the club was registered under the Act 2018. The directive requested Gor Mahia to hold fresh elections within four weeks to replace him.

However, Rachier challenged the court ruling, stating his official tenure began after the 2020 elections and not in 2018 and running until June 2028.

On June 26, 2026, Justice David Mburu of the High Court issued a temporary orders suspending the Registrar’s directive, issuing the matter will be heard on July 15, 2026. Ambrose Rachier has been the chairman Gor Mahia since 2008 and he has overseen the dominance of 10 league titles, cementing the club’s reputation in Kenyan football. Gor Mahia is now preparing for continental competitions while negotiating sponsorships and managing player contracts.
