The Ministry of Health has started preparations for the Mpox vaccination campaign set to begin next month in Mombasa, Nakuru and Busia.
Through its Division of Disease Surveillance and Response, the ministry this week met with county teams, health workers and partners to discuss how the exercise will run between September 3 and 13.
The training aimed at giving counties practical guidance, tackling myths around the disease and the vaccine, and drawing up workplans for a smooth rollout.
The vaccination will focus on groups considered more exposed to Mpox, especially truck drivers and sex workers, who work in busy transport routes, border points and other high-contact areas.
Officials at the meeting, among them Gladys Mugambi, Head of Health Promotion, risk communication expert Wycliffe Matini and WHO’s Nancy Okwengu, said public awareness and targeted vaccination would be key in closing health gaps and protecting vulnerable groups.
