The government has unveiled the 2025 National Alcohol Policy, signaling a renewed, people-centered approach to preventing alcohol and substance abuse, expanding access to treatment, and supporting recovery.

Developed by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the new policy—officially titled the 2025 National Policy on Alcohol, Drugs, and Substance Abuse—aims to strengthen prevention efforts and ensure evidence-based, inclusive responses to addiction challenges across the country.

Speaking during the launch, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa emphasized that the policy will prioritize prevention, increase accessibility to treatment services, and enhance rehabilitation and reintegration programs.

“This policy is a roadmap to protect the most vulnerable in our society, particularly the youth,” Dr. Omerikwa stated.

Key pillars of the policy include:

  • Strict enforcement of alcohol regulations
  • Robust prevention and awareness strategies
  • Strengthened rehabilitation and support systems
  • Community and multi-agency collaboration

Aligned with Kenya’s long-term public health goals, the policy seeks to bring together government institutions, community organizations, and families in a coordinated effort to promote a sober, healthier, and more productive society.
