In a strategic effort to promote a positive travel experience and expand the tourism sector, the government continues to prioritize the security of tourists.
This initiative aims to open up more job opportunities in the country while positioning it as a top destination for international travelers.
To achieve these goals, the Ministry of Interior has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Tourism, marking a significant collaboration with the National Police Service.
The primary objective is to boost foreign tourist arrivals, aiming to increase the current annual figure from 2 million to 5 million by 2027, and to a remarkable 10 million by 2032.
The MoU, signed by Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kindiki Kithure and his Tourism counterpart Rebecca Miano, outlines the comprehensive resources and logistical support that will be provided to the Tourism Police Unit (TPU).
The agreement ensures that the TPU, funded through the Tourism Fund, will be well-equipped to safeguard the security and well-being of both local and foreign visitors.
The signing ceremony was attended by Principal Secretaries Raymond Omollo (Interior) and John Ololtuaa (Tourism), along with key figures from the National Police Service, including Inspector General Douglas Kanja and Deputy Inspector-General Eliud Lagat.
The presence of these senior officials underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector through enhanced security measures.
With this initiative, the country is poised for significant growth in its tourism sector, solidifying its position on the global travel map.
