More than 1.15 million vulnerable Kenyans will start receiving their Inua Jamii stipends after the government released over Ksh 4.6 billion to support them.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection confirmed the funds totalling Ksh 4,607,668,000 will cover payments for the months of June and July 2025. Each person enrolled in the programme will receive Ksh 4,000, or Ksh 2,000 for each month.

According to Joseph Motari, the Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, payments began on Thursday across the country. He acknowledged there was a delay in the June payout, blaming it on a data clean-up exercise meant to update the programme’s records.

“We sincerely apologise to beneficiaries for any inconvenience the delay may have caused,” said Motari.

The Inua Jamii cash transfer programme supports older people from the  aged of 70 and above, persons with severe disabilities, and orphans and vulnerable children groups considered most at risk in society.

The government says the initiative is part of its  efforts to fight poverty and protect the dignity of vulnerable Kenyan  citizens.

Motari also encouraged beneficiaries to sign up for the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access affordable healthcare services under the government’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) plan.
