The government is planning a citizen engagement and clinic day in Tharaka Nithi County as part of efforts to bring public services and information closer to wananchi.

Blue Economy Principal Secretary Betsy Njagi said the proposed forum would provide residents with an opportunity to engage directly with government officials, raise concerns and access information on government programmes, services and opportunities.

Njagi said preparations for the forum had started following an introductory meeting with the Mt Kenya Caucus Tharaka Nithi Chapter Steering Committee.

She chaired the meeting, which was led by Daniel Muriungi Mugao, a Kenya Ports Authority board member, as the stakeholders began planning for the proposed engagement.

“Taking Government closer to the people starts with listening,” Njagi said.

She said the planned forum would create a platform where residents can raise issues affecting them and seek clarification on government initiatives.

The PS said citizen engagement was important in ensuring that government programmes respond to the needs of the people and that wananchi are aware of available services and opportunities.

The meeting was also attended by Mt Kenya Caucus Convenor Wangoro Mwangi and Sebastian Mwangangi, an adviser at UDA headquarters.

The proposed engagement comes amid efforts by government-aligned leaders to strengthen grassroots engagement and improve communication between the administration and citizens.

The organisers are expected to announce details of the citizen engagement and clinic day once preparations are complete.
