The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has banned the use of drones in selected areas around Naivasha during the ongoing WRC Safari Rally Kenya 2026 as part of heightened security and spectator safety measures.
The directive took effect as the global motorsport event entered its second day, with thousands of fans gathering across rally stages in Naivasha and neighbouring locations to witness the high-speed competition.
Authorities said the temporary restriction is aimed at preventing potential safety risks that could arise from unauthorized drone operations near rally routes, spectator zones and restricted areas.
Officials from the Interior Ministry noted that drones flying near rally stages could interfere with security operations, distract drivers or pose danger to spectators and participants.
Security agencies have therefore warned that only drones operated by authorised personnel and event organisers will be permitted within designated zones throughout the rally period.
The move is part of a broader security plan put in place by government agencies to ensure the smooth running of the international motorsport event, which attracts thousands of local and international fans to the lakeside town.
The Safari Rally Kenya, which runs from March 12 to March 15, is one of the most anticipated sporting events in the country and continues to draw global attention to Kenya’s tourism and motorsport landscape.
Security officials have also urged spectators to follow all safety guidelines, remain within designated viewing areas and cooperate with law enforcement officers deployed across the rally stages.
The government has reiterated that the measures are intended to guarantee the safety of rally fans, drivers and officials while ensuring the event proceeds without disruption.
