Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), hours after spending the night at Royal Media Services (RMS), claiming police were waiting to arrest him outside the station.

The MP was picked up on Monday morning shortly after leaving the media house, where he had sought refuge following an appearance on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi programme.

On Sunday night, Kaguchia alleged that heavily armed and hooded officers had surrounded the RMS premises moments after the show ended.

He claimed the officers had mounted roadblocks around the station and were waiting to arrest him, forcing him to remain inside the building until morning.

Videos shared online later showed DCI officers escorting the legislator into a waiting vehicle before driving away.

By the time of his arrest, detectives had not disclosed the reasons behind the operation or the offence the MP is alleged to have committed.

The arrest comes at a time of heightened political tensions, with several leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accusing security agencies of targeting them over their political activities.

Kaguchia is among outspoken politicians who have openly backed Gachagua since his fallout with President William Ruto’s administration.
