New revelations are surfacing in the murder case of Charles Ong’ondo Were, as detectives dig deeper into what appears to be a calculated and well-coordinated assassination.

Before their cases were merged, suspects Shigali, Oduor, and Ochieng had denied murder charges at the Kibera High Court. Kuria and Omondi entered similar pleas at the Milimani Law Courts.

Justice Kavedza has scheduled a bond ruling for the first three on August 14, 2025, while the other two are expected to have their bail applications heard on September 22.

The grim nature of the killing was confirmed in a post-mortem conducted at Lee Funeral Home by government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor.

He reported that Were suffered five gunshot wounds that caused massive internal damage.

“The injuries were so extensive that survival was simply not possible,” Dr. Oduor told reporters after the autopsy.

Present at the examination were the MP’s family lawyers, Apollo Mboya and Peter Kopere, alongside senior homicide officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), led by Homicide Chief Martin Nyuguto.

Investigators now believe the legislator was targeted. Early indications from the DCI are that the murder was pre-planned. CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and witnesses show he was followed out of Parliament by a motorbike and a car before being assaulted.

Police work during the past week has seen significant advances. Multiple people were arrested, and crucial evidence has been retrieved.

As officers raided the residence of one of the suspects, they took $4,800 in cash.

Detectives also found nine cartridges of live ammunition and eight teargas shells, all without registration at one location.

Two vehicles, believed to have been utilized during the offense, have been confiscated and are now being subjected to forensic examination, including DNA analysis, as the search for the truth continues
