Former Merishow Principal David Gideon Kariuki and Operator of G-Max Hall Alex Kasaine Kataiyo

The education sector has been rocked by scandal after former principal of Merishaw School, David Gideon Kariuki and Alex Kasaine Kataiyo, the operator of G-Max Hall, were ordered to appear in court over alleged exam malpractice.

Authorities have accused the two of orchestrating irregularities during national examinations, raising serious concerns about academic integrity. Investigations reveal the exam papers were mishandled and the procedures compromised, prompting swift action by the Kenyan National Examinations Council (KNEC) and law enforcement.

David Kariuki was accused of failing to uphold exam regulations and allegedly facilitating malpractice, while Alex Kataiyo irregularities of colluding in the malpractice scheme.

The two were arraigned at Milimani Law Court, where they will face charges under Kenya’s Examinations Act, which criminalizes cheating, leaking or tampering with exam materials.

This comes as KNEC struggles to safeguard the credibility of exam schools, along with students and with teachers who have been found in cheating exams especially in national examinations.
