Fly748 has joined businesses and other stakeholders in discussions on sustainable packaging and waste management as Kenya steps up efforts to build a circular economy.

The airline is exhibiting at the fourth KEPRO Annual Circular Packaging Conference (KACPC IV), being held on Friday, October 2, at the Hyatt Regency Nairobi, Westlands.

The conference brings together government officials, manufacturers, businesses, recyclers, investors, development partners and other players to discuss practical ways of reducing waste and improving resource recovery.

This year’s conference is being held under the theme “Sustainable Packaging for a Resilient Future: Innovation. Accountability. Impact.”

For Fly748, the exhibition provides an opportunity to engage with organisations working across the sustainability and packaging value chain while sharing its experience as a domestic scheduled airline.

George Oduor, Head of Scheduled Services at Fly748, said the company was keen to learn from other businesses and explore practical ways of improving sustainability in its operations.

“We recognise that responsible waste management and resource efficiency are increasingly part of responsible business. We are keen to learn, collaborate and identify practical solutions that can strengthen sustainability across our operations and supply chain,” said Oduor.

The conference comes as Kenya continues implementing its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework, which places greater responsibility on producers for the management of products and packaging beyond their use.

KEPRO has said the next phase of the country’s circular economy journey must move beyond awareness to compliance, investment and measurable action.

The organisation has also identified challenges including the cost of recycling, limited infrastructure, waste separation and the need for stronger coordination among counties, producers and recyclers.

The KACPC IV programme includes discussions on alternative packaging materials, waste-to-value solutions, the circular economy and waste management under devolution. The conference is expected to bring together more than 250 senior delegates.

Fly748 operates scheduled domestic flights connecting Nairobi with Mombasa and Ukunda, with the airline describing its service as part of its wider effort to connect travellers across Kenya.

Its participation at the conference places the airline among businesses engaging with the wider sustainability conversation as companies face growing pressure to reduce waste, improve resource efficiency and adopt more responsible business practices.
