Former Kisii governor aspirant Professor Bishop Josiah Onyancha and his wife have died in a deadly road accident.

The two were traveling to Nairobi on Tuesday, August 6, at night when their car crashed head-on in Narok County.

Their son Edwin Nyarangi who is a reporter at The Standard in Nairobi, confirmed the deaths.

“They were going for a graduation ceremony,” he said in a statement.

Back in 2022 general elections, Prof. Onyancha vied for the gubernatorial seat in Kisii county on an independent ticket.

Apart from politics, Prof. was a renowned and respectable scholar and well-known community member.

He was a holder of PhD in Library and Information Science from South Africa’s University of Zululand and a research professor at the University of South Africa (UNISA).

He was also Head of the Department of Information Science for four years and he widely published within his area of practice, with a focus on knowledge management and informetrics.

Those who knew him remember him as a man of integrity who never shied away from speaking truth to power.

His death has been received with shock from both the political and academia circles, with everybody piling encomiums on the late leader as a huge loss.
