The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into the alleged misuse of public funds following claims that Ksh.5 million was spent on a lavish housewarming party at the residence of the Vihiga County Assembly Speaker.

In a letter dated February 12, 2026, and addressed to the Clerk of the Vihiga County Assembly, the commission demanded urgent submission of documents to support the probe. The anti-graft body is seeking detailed records, including requisitions from the user department, approved budgets for the 2023/2024 financial year or any other relevant period, procurement paperwork, and payment records linked to the event.

EACC officials want the documents submitted by February 13, 2026, to help determine whether public funds were used inappropriately. Regional Manager for Central Nyanza, Abraham Kemboi, said investigators Brian Shigoli and Kevin Lagat, or any other authorized officers, would be available to receive the documents and additional information.

The investigation comes amid growing public concern over the use of public resources for personal events, with residents and accountability groups calling for transparency and responsible spending by public officials.
