Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has reaffirmed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (ODPP) commitment to working with security, electoral and justice institutions to ensure Kenya holds peaceful and credible 2027 General Elections.
Ingonga said a secure and transparent electoral process will require close coordination among institutions responsible for election management, security and administration of justice.
The DPP spoke during a High-Level Roundtable Consultative Meeting on Election Security held at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, where stakeholders discussed preparations for the 2027 polls.
He pointed to Article 81 of the Constitution as the key standard guiding the electoral process, noting that elections must be free and fair and conducted without violence, intimidation, improper influence or corruption.
“Delivering on this mandate requires the active, coordinated support of all security and justice sector actors,” Ingonga said.
The DPP stressed that election security should not be left to one institution, urging agencies involved in the electoral and justice ecosystem to work together to identify and address potential threats early.
His remarks come as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather pace, with security agencies and other stakeholders increasingly focusing on preventing election-related violence, intimidation and other offences.
Ingonga has previously warned that individuals involved in violence, hate speech, cybercrime and other attempts to disrupt the electoral process will face the law. The ODPP has also indicated that it is strengthening its preparedness to handle electoral offences ahead of the polls.
The ODPP’s latest commitment places inter-agency cooperation at the centre of efforts to protect the integrity of the 2027 elections and maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
