Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has lauded the Kenya Kwanza administration’s transformative interventions in the dairy sector, saying the government’s bold policies are now yielding tangible benefits for farmers.

Speaking during the 10th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day at the Meru ASK Showground in Gitoro, Imenti North, the Deputy President highlighted significant growth in milk production and farmer earnings over the past two years.

According to Kindiki, milk prices have increased from Sh35 per litre in 2022 to a minimum of Sh50 today, boosting farmers’ income. “Earnings from milk have surged to Sh59 billion in 2024, up from Sh40 billion in 2022. This is the result of deliberate policy, administrative, and regulatory interventions initiated by President William Ruto’s administration.” said Kindiki

In a bid to further accelerate growth in the dairy value chain, Kindiki announced that President Ruto has directed a reduction in the cost of sexed semen to Sh1,000, effective July 1, 2025. The move is expected to enhance quality breeding and increase milk yields.

The Deputy President also noted other key measures the government is implementing to support dairy and livestock farmers. These include a nationwide livestock vaccination campaign, tax exemptions on yellow maize to reduce animal feed costs, and enhanced access to milk coolers to curb post-harvest losses.

Farmers are also being encouraged to form cooperative societies, which will help them negotiate better prices and improve access to markets.“Today, we celebrate not just another field day, but the fruits of a government that listens, invests, and empowers. Our commitment to Kenya’s farmers is unwavering, and we will continue walking with them on this journey toward economic transformation.”he noted

9The event brought together dairy farmers, agricultural stakeholders, and national and county leaders, with President Ruto also in attendance to champion the government’s agricultural agenda.
