The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) has formally welcomed the KIKAO Youth Movement into its fold. The strategic partnership was unveiled during a press briefing in Nairobi, positioning DNA as the new political home for thousands of young leaders across the country.Speaking at the announcement.

DNA Party Leader Hon. Godfrey Kanoti described the merger as a “revolutionary moment” that marks a new chapter in youth political empowerment in Kenya.

“This is a turning point, a signal to the nation that Kenya’s youth are no longer knocking on doors. You are opening your own,” Kanoti declared.

The integration gives birth to the DNA Youth Movement, with KIKAO’s grassroots infrastructure — active in 40 counties — forming its backbone.

KIKAO Chairperson and CEO Bright Shitemi hailed the union as a major step forward for young people demanding accountability, better governance, and a more inclusive political space.

“This momentous day is a continuation of the remarkable efforts of young people who said enough to corruption, poor governance, and an attempt to destroy our democratic gains,” Shitemi said. “Together, we will change the DNA of our leadership and our country.”To affirm its commitment to meaningful youth inclusion. DNA announced several key leadership appointments drawn from the KIKAO movement:

Chepkoech Towett – Deputy Party LeaderBright Shitemi – Deputy National ChairpersonStanley Muchiri – Secretary for Public Policy and Economic AffairsJames Okumu – Secretary for Political AffairsEugene Ochieng – Secretary for MobilizaMobilisationrships and FundraisingJagero Oduor – Secretary for Publicity and Information.

Kanoti acknowledged the challenges Kenya’s youth continue to face, citing high unemployment and growing political repression. “Over 35% of Kenya’s youth are unemployed. Millions more are underemployed, underpaid, or hustling just to survive,” he said.

He also condemned recent incidents of violence against young activists, calling it a matter of survival rather than mere exclusion. The party leader emphasised that the DNA-KIKAO union is more than symbolic. “KIKAO is not a slogan; it is a movement with muscle,” he said. “Your generation is tired of tokenism and gatekeeping.

DNA is not just welcoming you; we are investing in you.”The newly established DNA Youth Movement will serve as a hub for political education, mentorship, and leadership development, preparing young leaders to take up national roles.

In his closing remarks, Kanoti issued a passionate rallying call to Kenya’s youth ahead of the 2027 elections.“You are not the future; you are the present. And you will no longer ask permission to lead. 2027 will be the Youth Tsunami—the only question is: Will you be part of the wave, or will you watch it pass you by?”
