The Directorate Of Criminal Investigations is probing a gold scam in which an Australian investor was allegedly swindled 78 million shillings by individuals posing as traders.

The victim, Andrew Adel Gabala wired the money to a law firm identified as Conrad advocates after being promised the consignment would be delivered to him in the United Arabs Emirates.

In practice, the suspects used fake delays to explain why shipments never arrived, citing travel issues tied to political tensions between Iran-US and Israel.

The victim, stayed in contact for weeks before finally returning to kenya after failing to receive his cargo. A formal complaint was submitted to the DCI shortly after.

Triggering further scrutiny of those involved one suspect, Duncan Okaka Okonji, appeared in court and faced charges for conspiracy to defraud. He walked free on Sh5 million in cash or Sh1 million in bond. Officials are still tracking down more people connected to this operation.
