The Director of Criminal Investigations has sought to set the record straight after news went round online claiming that one of their officers was found dead at their headquarters in Kiambu Road.
In their statement released on Monday, the agency stated that the news going round online was false.
The officer, who has been identified as Corporal Muiruri and has been serving at the DCI Kajiado North, died on Saturday, February 21, after an incident occurred at his home in Ngong, not at the agency’s headquarters in Kiambu Road as claimed in online news.
A police officer was discovered unconscious in his kitchen garden, near a neighbor’s home, and died after being taken to Ngong Level IV Hospital. From the initial findings, it is believed that the police officer may have been electrocuted while working on his farm.
The Crime Scene Investigation team, with assistance from Kenya Power, discovered that there was an electric wire buried just under the soil in the police officer’s garden. This case is recorded at Ngong Police Station.
In their message, DCI asked the citizens not to spread rumors, especially during this difficult time for the officer’s family.
The agency described Corporal Muiruri as a dedicated officer and expressed their heartfelt condolences to him and his family, friends, and colleagues.
This comes at a time when another case of electrocution is being investigated by the police in Kariobangi North after a man was killed on Saturday evening after being allegedly electrocuted while taking clothes from an electric clothesline.
The deceased was taken to Jumuia Hospital in Huruma after being electrocuted, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. His body has been taken to City Mortuary as investigations into his death continue.
