In a heartfelt homecoming, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mr. Mohamed Amin, paid a visit to his alma mater, Sabunley Senior School, where he delivered a powerful message on the transformative role of education and the importance of community collaboration in addressing social and security challenges.
Speaking as the Chief Guest during the official handover of a newly constructed 3.64-kilometre perimeter wall, Mr. Amin called education “the most powerful tool we can provide our youth,” underscoring its role in nurturing critical thinking, challenging societal norms, and fostering positive change.
The perimeter wall, a joint effort funded by Mombasa Cement, Sabunley Senior School alumni, and other local well-wishers, marks a significant milestone in improving the school’s infrastructure and security. Mr. Amin lauded the initiative, urging more public-private partnerships to uplift education in Wajir and beyond.
He challenged local leaders and residents to work together to improve education standards in Wajir County, bringing them on par with other regions in the country. He emphasized that education is key to tackling issues such as radicalisation and violent extremism, and called for enhanced cooperation between the community and security agencies.
Touching on sensitive societal issues, the DCI Director addressed the harmful cultural practice of Maslaha, which he said often impedes justice, especially in cases involving gender-based violence. “Such practices erode the rule of law and deny victims their right to justice,” he noted, calling for a shift toward legal and transparent conflict resolution.
Land disputes, a long-standing issue in the region, also featured in his speech. Mr. Amin appealed for the adoption of swift and structured mechanisms to manage land conflicts and prevent them from spiraling into violence.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Amin warned of the growing threat posed by disinformation and misinformation, particularly on digital platforms. He urged the community to remain vigilant and to seek credible sources of information to protect social harmony.
The event drew a host of dignitaries and community leaders, including Wajir East MP Hon. Adan Daud, Wajir County Police Commander Mr. John Gichohi, Wajir East Deputy County Commissioner Mr. George Onyango, County Assembly Speaker Hon. Abdille Yusuf, and Sabunley Senior School Chief Principal Mr. Abdi Noor Haji.
The visit was not just a return to Mr. Amin’s educational roots but a call to action—an impassioned appeal for education, justice, and unity to be the cornerstones of Wajir’s progress.
