Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a 33-year-old man who is allegedly responsible for inflammatory remarks that were widely circulated on social media platforms. These remarks are said to pose a threat to public peace and national cohesion.
In a statement made on Wednesday, DCI disclosed that Evans Onyango Kawala, alias Kidero Jasuba, was spotted and arrested by a joint team of detectives from the Operations Support Unit (OSU) during an operation in the Shujaa Mall area of Kayole.
The authorities claimed that the suspect had made a series of provocative statements which, if not stopped, might cause public disturbances and the destabilization of the country.
He will be arraigned in court soon as he is currently in police custody while the final paperwork is being done by the officers.
DCI urged the public not to make or share any remarks or contents that incite hatred, violence, or threaten peaceful coexistence among people in Kenya.
They reiterated that any individual found guilty of such offenses will be prosecuted in line with the existing laws.
The arrest is part of the efforts of security agencies which are rightly worried about the use of social media platforms for spreading inflammatory contents that have the potential of causing public disorder and disunity in the nation.
