Leaders and community representatives from Kwale County are gaining valuable insights on how mining can directly benefit local communities at the ongoing MiningIndaba 2026 conference in Cape Town.
Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy & Maritime Affairs, Hassan Ali Joho, EGH, said responsible mining is more than following regulations—it’s about including communities in decisions at every stage of the mining process.
During discussions with Kwale representatives, the focus was on improving transparency, increasing community participation, and ensuring that mineral resources lead to real social and economic gains for the people living near mining areas.
CS Joho Urges Inclusive Mining to Boost Community Prosperity
“The lessons shared by peers from across Africa will help Kwale strengthen local engagement and ensure that mining contributes to sustainable growth,” CS Joho said.
The engagement highlights Kenya’s efforts to make mining a force for development, empowering communities to play an active role in shaping the sector that affects their livelihoods.
