CS Duale Launches Major Health Upgrades at King Fahad Hospital in Lamu County, as part of the government’s plan to improve healthcare access under Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The new equipment includes an oxygen plant, a five-bed ICU, the Timamy Suites, and a 128-slice Fuji CT scan the hospital’s first advanced diagnostic unit. The improvements fall under Phase One of the National Equipment Service Program (NESP).
Speaking during the launch, Duale said the investments show the government’s push to deliver quality, specialized healthcare in all corners of the country, including remote areas like Lamu.
“These upgrades mean patients in Lamu no longer need to travel far for scans or critical care. Services are now closer to the people,” he said.
Lamu is among the first counties to benefit from the expanded diagnostic and surgical support under NESP.
More equipment including a mammogram and MRI machine is expected to arrive in July.
The Ministry is also shifting to a county-led system, where counties request what they need instead of relying on central supply. This, officials say, makes the system more responsive and eases pressure on county budgets through a fee-for-service model.
