Coast political leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to shaping the region’s political future through a united front, insisting that decisions affecting the Coast will be determined by its people and not external forces.
Speaking during consultative engagements in Kilifi South Constituency, Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya said the region’s political direction will be guided by the collective aspirations of Coast residents as leaders work together to champion development and economic empowerment.
“The political direction of the Coast Region will not be dictated to us; it will be determined by the will of the people of the Coast, united by our shared aspirations and common destiny,” Mvurya said.
The consultative meeting brought together Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro and other Coast leaders in a show of regional unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Mvurya said the leaders are engaging residents across the region to build consensus on a shared development agenda while emphasizing the importance of political cohesion in advancing the interests of the Coastal counties.
He noted that the ongoing consultations are aimed at fostering a renewed sense of purpose among leaders and residents, with a focus on ensuring the region speaks with one voice on matters affecting its future.
“Our renewed unity of purpose and collective sense of direction will help secure lasting prosperity for our communities,” he said.
The Cabinet Secretary also underscored the political significance of the Coast voting bloc, saying the region’s numbers give it considerable influence in national politics and development negotiations.
“Our vote basket matters,” Mvurya stated, urging residents to remain united as leaders continue consultations across the Coast.
The latest engagements come amid heightened political activity across the country as leaders position themselves and their regions ahead of the 2027 elections. The appearance of senior leaders, including Joho and Kingi, signals renewed efforts to consolidate the Coast voting bloc and strengthen the region’s bargaining power in national politics.
