Renowned Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has stirred widespread public concern after personally sharing an alleged account of what she describes as serious medical negligence involving her son during hospital care.

In the post shared by Chimamanda, she alleged that her son was given a strong sedative and was not adequately monitored afterward, a situation she says left critical gaps in understanding when his condition deteriorated. According to her account, transfers between medical areas were handled in a manner she described as alarmingly casual.

“It turns out that my son was never monitored after being given too much sedative. Nobody knows when exactly he became unresponsive,” Chimamanda alleged in her post.

She further alleged that after a separate medical procedure, her son’s oxygen support was switched off during transfer to intensive care an action she said left her shocked and devastated.

“How can you sedate a sick child and neglect to monitor him?” she wrote, questioning what she believes was a complete breakdown of standard paediatric safety protocols.

These allegations based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s personal account have not been independently verified by hospital authorities, professional medical bodies, or a court of law. No official findings or disciplinary outcomes have been made public at the time of writing.

Despite this, her account has resonated strongly with parents, healthcare advocates, and members of the public, many of whom have called for transparency, accountability, and stronger protections for children within medical systems.
