The picturesque 18-hole Bujumbura Golf Club is set to host the KCB East Africa Golf Tour on April 26 welcoming 100 of the region’s top amateur golfers for a high-stakes showdown.
Golfers will compete not only for top honors but also for a coveted spot in the tour’s grand finale slated for December. The two leading teams from Saturday’s event will earn direct qualification to the finale.
Now in its third consecutive year at Bujumbura, the KCB East Africa Golf Tour continues to play a key role in promoting inclusivity, enhancing regional unity, and advancing the sport across East Africa.
“We are proud to be part of this transformative tour once again,” said Bujumbura Golf Club Captain Benjamin Huynen. “We warmly welcome players from across the region to what promises to be an exciting and competitive event.”
In the tour’s third leg, held at Thika Sports Club, standout performances by Brian Omondi, Mike Mwenda, Ndegwa Thuku, Bernard Mureithi, Grace Ngamau, Lawrence Ngamau, Margaret Waweru, and Jackson Waweru secured them spots in the grand finale.
Speaking ahead of the Bujumbura leg, KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications, Rosalind Gichuru, emphasized the bank’s continued commitment to the sport.
“KCB has consistently supported the growth of golf, investing millions in tournaments across the region. Our goal is to make the sport more accessible and inclusive,” she noted.
This year, the overall winners will receive KSh. 1 million to fund a sustainability project at their home club, in addition to a fully sponsored trip to a prestigious international golf tournament courtesy of KCB.
As part of the bank’s broader environmental conservation efforts, the tour will also include the planting of over 1,000 trees across participating golf courses—supporting the national initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
