Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over remarks touching on her marriage to Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi.
Maina dismissed Gachagua’s alleged prediction that her marriage would not last six months, saying she and Wamumbi remain happy and have built a strong relationship.
In a post on social media, Maina said the couple had achieved a lot together and understood each other.
“We are happy together, we have achieved a lot together, we understand each other and we are crazy together,” she said.
Maina went further to mock Gachagua over the alleged prediction.
“You predicted that our marriage wouldn’t last for 6 months. God does not listen to male witches,” she said.
The latest exchange revives an old dispute between Maina and Gachagua that has previously spilled into the political arena.
Maina had in October 2024 accused Gachagua of making hurtful remarks about her marriage despite playing a key role in the traditional wedding preparations.
“He even bet my marriage wouldn’t last for six months, yet I had trusted him,” Maina said at the time.
Gachagua was the lead negotiator during the couple’s traditional wedding held in Murang’a on November 18, 2023.
The former Deputy President was also among several senior political leaders who attended the ceremony.
Gachagua had earlier described Wamumbi as his successor in Mathira and played a prominent role in his political rise after the 2022 General Election.
Their relationship later deteriorated, with Wamumbi and Gachagua openly disagreeing over several political issues.
Maina has now turned the issue back on Gachagua, questioning his interest in the private affairs of other people.
She also dragged Gachagua’s family into the exchange, referring to “Keith and Ikinu” and questioning why they had not married.
Maina suggested that Gachagua’s tendency to interfere in other people’s affairs could be partly responsible.
Her remarks come amid renewed political exchanges between Gachagua and leaders from the Mount Kenya region as politicians position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
For Maina, however, the message was personal: the marriage Gachagua allegedly predicted would fail has now lasted beyond the six months he is accused of predicting.
