Muranga woman representative Betty Maina was this hosted by Kamau wa Kangethe iNooro TV and the debate touched on the impending impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Coming hot on heels of her recent statement during which she unreservedly supported the impeachment of DP, this time she was cautious with her words.

As I speak to you, I have not seen the motion and I have no information on who will move it and neither do I know the grounds listed.

With this, she declined to explicitly confirm whether she is among those who had signed up the list of legislators calling for Gachagua’s removal. After this show, I’m going to Parliament to get more information.

She however reiterated that she will make her mind after reading the grounds cited.

I know you people of the media like to create controversies but I hope you have now understand me.

If I realize the grounds were politically motivated and did not meet the threshold in respect to any violations of constitution and other laws of the land, I will not vote in support of this motion but if turns out the DP has violated the constitution I will support it.

At one point after the anchor pushed her further, she opened up.

In public, Gachagua cast an image of holier than thou but he has another face that cast him as a heartless and uncaring man.

Sometimes when we approached the DP and asked him to bring the plight of a Senator from his bedrock of Mount Kenya region whose properties were being auctioned to the attention of President William Ruto, he did not take this matter seriously and he eventually ignored us.

This is despite the fact that this person was suffering because of decamping from the former government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and joining United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Apart from bankrolling their campaign, he spent his time and energy moving around to solicit votes for the duo.

The Uhuru government had awarded him some tenders and he had completed the work as prescribed on contractual agreements.

That government however declined to pay him because of joining Dr Ruto’s wing of Tanga Tanga.

So we were forced to bring this matter to attention of the President. He felt for this senator and his immediate interventions bore the fruits. The Senator was paid for the work he had done.

Hon Betty further cited the recent demonstrations held by coffee farmers from Mathioya, Muranga county.

The farmers were complaining about poor pay and dilapidated infrastructure.

Again, when we brought this matter to the attention of DP he failed to address it.

This prompted us to look for the Cabinet Secretary who was willing to visit the area and listen to the grievances of farmers.

Betty further claimed that the DP almost sabotaged this visit.

He had allegedly warned the CS against travelling to the area because he does not understand the politics of the Mountain.

We were forced to look for President Ruto who immediately intervened and sorted out the matter.
