betPawa has invested KSh6.7 million in a grassroots football development programme that will support 25 teams and benefit at least 575 players across the country.

The initiative, which targets both men’s and women’s teams, includes the distribution of full playing kits and training equipment to help ease the challenges many community clubs face due to limited resources.

Each player will receive a full kit comprising jerseys, shorts, and socks. The teams have also been supplied with match balls, training bibs, and goalkeeper gloves to support training and match preparation.

In total, betPawa distributed 100 match balls, 575 training bibs, and 75 pairs of goalkeeper gloves to the participating teams.

Among these beneficiary clubs are Masimba Queens, Kibagare Girls FC, Atletico Kangemi SC, Maungu All Stars FC, Falcon Queens, Shimanzi FC, Majengo FC, and Kangeta Youth FC.

This assistance has come at a time when most of the local clubs still have very little funding, sometimes depending entirely on local funding to pay for kits and training equipment.

Lack of proper kits and training equipment continues to be among the main challenges that affect most local clubs.

Borah Ndanyungu, Head of Local Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility at betPawa Kenya, said the company wants to support talent development at the community level where many players begin their football journey.

“Because talent is everywhere in Kenya. You see it in community fields, in local leagues, in the quiet determination of players who show up every week, often with very little, but with everything to give, ” said Borah Ndanyungu, Head of Local Marketing and CSR at betPawa Kenya.

He added that providing proper equipment helps teams train better, stay organised, and compete with more confidence.

Women’s teams form a significant part of the beneficiaries, reflecting betPawa’s broader commitment to creating more inclusive opportunitie within sport.

According to betPawa, this project forms part of its overall sports development projects in Africa, among which are those that are geared towards the equal remuneration of both male and female squads.

The latest investment also highlights the growing role companies are playing in supporting grassroots sports beyond top-flight competitions, especially in communities where football continues to provide opportunities for young people.

As interest in local football grows, support for smaller clubs is increasingly being seen as important in nurturing talent, strengthening community sports structures, and creating pathways for young players to advance in the game.
