The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has issued a statement regarding Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, which is officially launched today.
In the statement, the coalition expressed strong support for Odinga’s candidacy.
“Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party wishes our esteemed leader, the Right Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga, the best of luck as he embarks on his campaign for the AUC chairmanship,” the statement reads.
The coalition emphasized that Odinga’s leadership and vision are seen as crucial for advancing the African Union’s goals of peace, stability, and prosperity across the continent.
“Mr. Odinga’s journey as a statesman has been marked by his relentless pursuit of justice, democracy, and the welfare of the people. His candidacy for the AUC aligns with these values and will enable him to champion Kenya’s and Africa’s interests on a global stage. We are confident in his success at the continental level, as he embodies these qualities and is prepared to lead the African Union Commission towards a brighter future,” the statement continued.

The launch of Odinga’s AUC bid was officiated by President William Ruto in a ceremony at State House Nairobi.
This event marks the beginning of Odinga’s official campaign as he aims to succeed Moussa Faki Mahamat, the outgoing AUC chair.
Notable attendees at the launch include East African Community (EAC) Chairman and South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, reflecting strong support from the EAC region.
Also present are Rwanda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs James Kabarebe and Burundian Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca, as well as former Presidents Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania and Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria. Their attendance underscores the regional and continental backing for Odinga’s bid.
