A day after it was established that presidential contestant Mohamed Abduba Dida is serving a jail term in a US prison, details have emerged of another Kenyan also imprisoned there.
Dida who contested in 2013 and 2017 polls is serving a seven-year sentence at Big Muddy Correctional Center in Illinois for stalking and threatening his estranged wife.
The 50-year-old former teacher was convicted in November 18, 2022.
At Oklahoma Correctional Facility, Erick Gachuhi Wanjiku is serving three years sentence for assaulting federal officers.
On June 2023 Gachuhi, 42, was charged with two counts of assault on two different federal immigration officers.
He was tried by a federal jury and found guilty on both counts.
Evidence presented at trial indicated that on May 8, 2023, he was moved from an Oklahoma Correctional Facility to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Removal Operations facility in Oklahoma City to be processed for immigration proceedings.

Prior to being fingerprinted, Gachuhi kicked one deportation officer near his left knee and bit a second deportation officer before he was restrained and placed back in a cell.
Court documents described the bite marks as “clearly visible and bloody.”

At the sentencing hearing early this year, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell sentenced him to serve 36 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Judge Russell noted Gachuhi’s history of violence and his lack of acceptance of responsibility in the case.

Upon his release from prison, he will be placed in ICE custody while he undergoes immigration proceedings.
