Kenya’s Ambassador to Angola, Joyce Khasimwa M’maitsi, has lauded the high level of competition demonstrated by Team Kenya at the ongoing 2025 African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola.
Speaking after meeting the Kenyan delegation, Khasimwa noted that the continental showpiece is more than just a sporting festival, describing it as a glimpse into the nation’s next generation of international stars.
“The athletes representing Kenya here in Luanda are our future champions. They are focused, highly disciplined, and display immense patriotism every time they step onto the field,” she said.
“They are clearly primed for greatness, and I am confident that Kenya’s sporting future is in safe hands. It is encouraging that we fielded teams for this championship, which serves as a build-up to major events such as the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar and the 2027 Commonwealth Youth Games.”
Khasimwa met the Team Kenya contingent on Monday night at the athletes’ village.
So far, the young athletes have collected 11 medals—four gold, three silver, and four bronze—with more competitions still to come before the Games conclude on December 20.
Boxing, judo, and taekwondo events are set to begin on Tuesday, while beach basketball tips off on Wednesday.
