All units under Kenya’s affordable housing scheme are being connected to high-speed government fibre internet as part of the new infrastructure upgrades to support the digital economy and enhance access to connectivity.

Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and the Digital Economy William Kabogo revealed that the government will extend internet services at a subsidized rate in order to help bridge the digital divide and reduce internet costs for households all over the country.

Kabogo pointed out that the internet connectivity program is likely to bring about job and wealth creation by giving more Kenyans the chance to exploit the digital opportunities right from their homes and communities.

Kabogo made the comments while announcing the launch of the Mukuru Digital Classroom at New Mukuru Primary School, which included the installation of modern ICT technology including 20 new laptops.

The project is part of the wider Mukuru ICT Hub project, which seeks to upgrade the digital literacy among learners and residents of Mukuru Estate in a bid to give them better access to internet and technology.

According to the government, the programme is part of a larger strategy to use affordable housing projects as catalysts of economic prosperity.
