Kenyan filmmaker and content creator Abel Mutua has criticized Kenya’s development, governance and political leadership following his recent visit to China.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Mutua expressed his amazement at China’s remarkable transformation over the past several decades, questioning why Kenya continues to struggle with development despite its enormous potential.

“As Kenyans I don’t think we are angry enough. We are just comfortable allowing in mediocrity, Wallahi…I hope we get to that point soon where we crave for better,” Mutua said.

He added that every time he visits the Asian country, he leaves mixed feelings after witnessing how far it has progressed in approximately 50 years.

China’s development serves as a reminder of what a country can achieve through effective systems, planning, organization and commitment to progress.

He further suggested that experiencing a properly functioning system changes one’s expectations of leadership and public service.

According to Mutua, once a person experiences an environment where institutions work and systems deliver, they become increasingly frustrated when politicians make statements that lack sense or fail to address the country’s real challenges.
