President William Ruto has handed over the Maraba Modern Market to traders in Tinderet, Nandi County, as part of his development tour project to 200 mama mbogas and other traders, providing them with a dignified, secure and modern space to conduct their businesses.
He stated that the government is investing Ksh 1.5 billion to construct 15 modern markets as part of fulfilling his commitment.

“We are investing Ksh 1.5 billion in the construction of 15 modern markets to fulfil this commitment. I have also handed over the Maraba Modern Market to 200 mama mbogas and other traders,” Ruto said.
He highlighted a small Huduma Centre that has been established within the market, which will enable traders to access government services while going on with their business.

At the opening, a grocer mentioned she used to sell watermelons by the roadside, but now she trades from the market.
As you can see, I sell watermelons, and they come from Kilifi County. We are delighted, Mr. President” the trader said.
The market is expected to create more organized trading environment that will empower small-scale traders, farmers and rural households, as it will provide more opportunities to sell their products.
