Two suspects have been arrested after detectives intercepted a trailer transporting 825 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of KSh24.7 million in Voi, Taita Taveta County.

The officers working under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) from Mombasa and Voi, together with Voi Police Station officers, were the ones who executed the operation based on the tip off received by the agency.

The DCI reported that the officers discovered the Scania truck being towed by the trailer in Voi Town. Initially, the police thought it was a normal goods inspection but after a thorough search of the truck, the operation turned out to be a big anti, drug raid.

Upon opening the 11 gunny pouches, detectives found bundles of cannabis with a combined weight of 825 kilograms, and the street value of the whole consignment is close to KSh24. 7 million.

The truck driver, Fredrick Otieno Ogode, and his alleged accomplice, Edwin Ochieng Otieno, were arrested at the scene.

The suspects, together with the truck and the seized narcotics, were taken into police custody for processing as investigations continue.

The latest seizure is the sixth among others in the past which have been attributed to anti, drug trafficking networks. With authorities continuing to collaborate, an all, out war on the illegal trade in narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances is being fought throughout the country.
