Government Injects Ksh850M to Rebuild Thika Stadium in Kiambu County

The government has injected Ksh850 million towards the construction of the dilapidated Thika Stadium in Kiambu county.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya who was accompanied by his Defence counterpart Soipan Tuya to the ground breaking ceremony aid the 10, 000-seater facility will be completed within 10 months.

In addition, the stadium will have a 10,000-sitting capacity, 8-lane running track, modern changing rooms and VVIP pavilion amongst others key amenities present in a modern sports infrastructure.

“Beyond providing a modern sporting facility, the stadium will open up local economies, create employment opportunities, nurture talent, and position Thika as a key sporting hub in the region” Mvurya said.

He also assured the local traders and the County Government of Kiambu County that no demolitions will be conducted, urging leaders and residents alike to shun divisive politics and instead rally behind the development agenda of President William Ruto.

Kiambu County currently has three stadium projects under implementation by the National Government, alongside three constituency sports academies aimed at strengthening grassroots talent development and creating structured pathways for our youth.

The ceremony was also graced by Kiambu County Deputy Governor Rosemary Kirika, Principal Secretaries Elijah Mwangi (Sports) and Dr. Patrick Mariru (Defense), Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, the local leadership and senior government officials.

PS Mwangi who termed Kiambu county as a hotbed of sporting talents said once completed, the stadium will add to the number of facilities with capacity to host training sessions for AFCON 2027.
