Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias Appointed Acting CEO at KETRACO

Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has appointed Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias as Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer with effect from September 19, 2025.

This was communicated by the Board Chair, Mohamed Abdi, and clarified that it was done after consultation with the Head of Public Service and the Cabinet Secretary for Energy.

Kibias succeeds Eng. John Mativo, who assumed office in April 2023.

Before his appointment, Kibias served as KETRACO’s General Manager for System Operation and Power Management.

He also served at Kenya Power for years, working in different posts ranging from regional management to system planning, design, and maintenance.

Much respected in the industry, the board continued that he was “passionate about power systems and renewable energy.” His expertise areas include design and construction, power system planning, and operations management.

Kibias is a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya and a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). He is also a Nuclear Committee member of the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO).

His educational backgrounds include a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from JKUAT, an MBA in Strategic Management from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, and a Master’s degree in Nuclear Power Plant Engineering from KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School, South Korea.

He is a holder of a PhD in Energy Studies from Moi University.
