Academy award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has opened up about her personal struggle with uterine fibroids. According to Lupita, in 2014- the same year when she won her oscar, Lupita realized she had 30 fibroids. She revealed undergoing a surgery to remove them however she was met a harsh reality that the fibroids were never going to clear.
On her social media stories she revealed that,”In March 2014, I won an Academy Award.That same year, I discovered I had uterine fibroids.30 fibroids.I had surgery to remove them.I asked my doctor if I could do anything to prevent them from recurring.She said: “You can’t. It’s only a matter of time until they grow again.”
Lupita’s revelation has been met with alot of support from the online community. Her fans commended her courage for speaking openly about the health issue that has affected numerous women worldwide. Through her story, Lupita shed light on uterine fibroids on this Fibroids Awareness Month.
