A total of 875 health facilities have been shut down by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) for non-compliance, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced.
Speaking during the launch of Health Facility Digitalization in Garissa County, CS Duale also revealed that over three million fraudulent health institutions have been delisted from NHIF records, with only licensed and accredited facilities to be included under the new Social Health Authority (SHA).
Duale said the rollout of digital health systems marks a major leap toward improving healthcare access and quality.
Garissa received 1,114 digital devices for public facilities to boost service delivery, enhance record-keeping, and reduce fraud.
Kenyans can now access their health data nationwide through the Health Information Exchange system, part of a broader effort to digitize patient records and prescriptions across the country.
The CS urged locals to register for SHA and embrace Taifa Care, Kenya’s flagship Universal Health Coverage initiative. Over 74,000 digital devices are expected to be distributed nationwide.
