At least 54 police trainees at Kiganjo Police Training College have been dismissed after the National Police Service uncovered cases of pregnancy, falsified documents and other disqualifying issues.

18 police trainees dismissed over pregnancy

The National Police Service (NPS) said 18 recruits were sent home after being found to be pregnant, while another 18 were removed for presenting fake academic certificates. In addition, 10 trainees were found to have prior criminal convictions, which automatically disqualifies candidates from joining the service.

Further investigations led to the dismissal of two recruits who had used forged identity documents. Two others were disqualified on medical grounds, while three were removed due to disciplinary violations. One trainee also withdrew from training because of serious illness.

The decision was confirmed by the commandant of the college, Munga Nyale, during a progress review of the Basic Recruit Training Course held on Thursday, May 7, in the presence of Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen.

Nyale noted that the affected recruits were part of the November 2025 intake, selected from thousands of applicants after a competitive national recruitment exercise. He added that while all had initially passed screening, later checks exposed breaches that compromised the integrity of the process.

The dismissed trainees have been formally removed from the training register, with some barred from reapplying in future.

The recruitment drive had seen the National Police Service take in 10,000 constables in November 2025 following a lengthy legal dispute involving the National Police Service Commission. The latest dismissals have now raised fresh questions about the strictness and integrity of the vetting process.
