National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has arrived in Beijing, China, to attend an international legislators’ forum aimed at strengthening parliamentary relations and promoting cooperation among countries.
Wetang’ula announced his arrival in a statement shared on Sunday, October 11, saying the Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges brings together more than 60 serving and former lawmakers from five continents.
The forum provides a platform for legislators to exchange ideas on lawmaking and governance, promote dialogue and explore areas of cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
Wetang’ula said the meeting would give Kenya an opportunity to strengthen ties with China’s National People’s Congress and other legislatures.
“For Kenya, the forum provides an important platform to strengthen ties with China’s National People’s Congress and other legislatures, share experiences in lawmaking and governance and explore areas of mutual interest that can support our country’s development priorities and improve the well-being of our people,” he said.
The forum has previously been held under the theme Global Partnership for Common and Sustainable Development, reflecting its focus on international cooperation and shared development goals.
Wetang’ula is attending the meeting alongside Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, nominated Senator Irene Mayaka and Webuye West MP John Chikati.
The visit comes as Kenya and China continue to pursue bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The parliamentary engagement is expected to provide an opportunity for lawmakers from the two countries to exchange experiences and strengthen institutional relations.
