Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called on leaders to respect the constitutional division of functions between the national and county governments, saying adherence to the law is key to effective service delivery.
In a statement on Friday, the governor said the Constitution clearly outlines the responsibilities assigned to county governments and those that remain under the national government.
“The Constitution is very clear on the functions devolved to county governments and those that remain the responsibility of the national government. Let every leader respect these constitutional roles and deliver the mandate entrusted to them,” she said.
Wavinya reiterated her administration’s commitment to implementing devolved functions and improving service delivery for residents of Machakos County.
She said the county government would continue investing in key sectors including healthcare, water supply, road infrastructure and agriculture under the county’s development agenda.
According to the governor, the initiatives are being implemented through the “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni” programme, which aims to improve livelihoods by boosting food security and increasing household incomes.
The governor noted that strengthening devolution and ensuring every level of government focuses on its constitutional responsibilities would enhance efficiency and accelerate development across the country.
Her remarks come amid ongoing national conversations on the relationship between county governments and the national administration, particularly over the implementation of devolved functions and allocation of resources.
