Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has explained why he chose Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to lead the Linda Mwananchi movement, saying most young people supported him.

Amisi said he had warned against bringing established politicians such as Siaya Governor James Orengo to lead the movement, arguing that it would cause confusion.

“I chose Sifuna to lead us in Linda Mwananchi because most youth are behind him, and I told them that if you bring in leaders like Orengo to lead, you will bring confusion,” Amisi said.

He said he raised the issue three to four months ago as the movement continued to attract more political leaders.

Amisi has previously claimed that he played a key role in the formation of Linda Mwananchi, saying the movement was initially formed by young leaders pushing for political change.

According to People Daily, Amisi has said he brought together Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other leaders as they sought to create a political platform for the youth.

Sifuna later emerged as one of the leading figures in the movement, which has since attracted several senior opposition politicians.

Orengo is among the leaders who have taken an active role in Linda Mwananchi activities.

His involvement, however, appears to have raised concerns among some of the movement’s original members, including Amisi.

Amisi has previously criticised the use of Linda Mwananchi platforms to promote the presidential ambitions of established politicians.

In August, he opposed attempts to use the movement to endorse Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, saying it was not formed for that purpose.

The Saboti MP has maintained that Linda Mwananchi should remain focused on young people and their political aspirations.

His latest remarks come as the movement positions itself ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Sifuna and other leaders stepping up mobilisation activities across the country.

Orengo has also publicly backed the movement, saying the next government could be formed through Linda Mwananchi.
