Former captain of Harambee Stars Victor Wanyama has called on Harambee Stars players to embrace the weight of expectation as the country prepares to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kenya will co-host the tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania, Wanyama believes the tournament will provide Harambee Stars with a golden opportunity to compete.

“I think if there is something that makes you better, it is pressure. Thriving under pressure is easy, just give your best when you come on the pitch, you know you give everything,” Wanyama said.

Hosting AFCON is both an honor and a challenge, with fans and officials expecting the national team to rise above past disappointments. Kenya aims to surpass its performance from the 2019 AFCON, where they were eliminated in the group stage after finishing third in Group C.

Under head coach Benni McCarthy, Harambee Stars is looking forward for the best in 2027, as the coach is already injecting fresh energy into the squad, focusing on discipline, tactical awareness and mental.

He emphasized every player should remain committed, work tirelessly and give their all on the pitch, as supporters will appreciate the effort they have made.

The 2027 AFCON will be more than just a tournament as Kenya’s sports will showcase its culture, and provide an opportunity for the team to perform its best.
